Spanish Ladies heading to Croatia for T20i-series

October 25, 2024

This weekend the Spanish ladies national team head to Zagreb for a four match T20I series with their Croatian counterparts. The Spanish contingent will be skippered and coached in this tournament by Elspeth Fowler with Marisol Carrera Vives acting as team manager.

Barcelona once again provide the nucleus of the Spanish team. Uswa Syed, Tasbiha Mirza, Memoona Riaz Queresh Muhammad, Muskan Ullah Akhtar, Rabia Mushtaq, Aneesa Azmat Hussain Begum and Aliza Fatima Saleem Arra all travel from Girona today to the Balkan capital where they will meet up with the UK based players Alexis Hartley, Amy Brown Carrera, Naomi Hillman Bermejo, Andrea Davidson Soler, Kat Frost and Olivia Bennett Baradad. It is the first time Baradad has been called up to the T20 side and the Spanish born player, who is based in Bristol, will be hoping for playing opportunities.

Some of the UK girls received a pleasant surprise when they bumped into the West Indies international Shamilia Connell at Heathrow airport earlier this morning. The Barbadian was part of the Carribean squad that reached the semi final stage of the recent ICC World Cup and she was kind enough to pose for photos and chat for a while to the very happy Spanish team members..

Spain, who are currently ranked 31st in the world play two matches on Saturday, and two on Sunday before flying back to their respective destinations on Monday. All the games will be T20I internationals and carry ranking points.
