Another Sunny day in Spain as LMTCC make their way up north to Albir for their 2nd 40 over league game of 2024.
LMTCC won the toss and elected to bat first and seemed a good choice with D. Mcclements and K. Wood opening the batting and getting a 43 run opening stand inside the 10 over mark.
D. Mcclements was the first to fall however with a mis-hit shot landed safely in the hands of the Alfas player at Mid-on. Debutee, P. Kenealy, came in at 3 but his debut would only last 2 balls as he was bowled. Ab. Hussain came in at 4 and batted a couple more overs before he was out caught and bolwed. 49/3 after 11 overs and Alfas were quickly taking control of the game.
F. Shazhad came in at 5 and started a counter attack bringing the score up to 66 but also fell 2 balls before the drinks break at the 15 over mark. Drinks were taken with LMTCC 66/4 as T.Knowles came in at 6 to join K.Wood.
The 19th over saw K.Wood fall as he nicked one to the keeper bringing R.Tedder to the crease. R.Tedder and T.Knowles started a counter attack and brought the score up quickly after the 5th wicket bringing the score past the 100 mark but T.Knowles fell victim to the nelson as he was caught behind for 26. 111/6 off 25.
R.Tedder continued with his attack whilst C.Wood, A.Anwar fell trying to assist him but R.Tedder eventually fell for 24 when he hit the ball high to mid-wicket.
A.Court and M. Wilson-Pestel were the last 2 batters for LMTCC as they scampered to the 150 mark but fell 3 runs short as M. Wilson-Pestel was bowled, ending his streak of not outs.
All out for 147. Here is the scorecard:
D. Mcclements 26(30)
K. Wood 29(45)
P. Kenealy 0(2)
Ab. Hussain 4(7)
F. Shazhad 14(19)
T. Knowles 26(23)
R. Tedder 24(46)
C. Wood 0(3)
A. Anwar 3(16)
A. Court 2*(9)
M. Wilson-Pestel 0(9)
A tough outing with the bat once again for LMTCC but now over to the defence.
After some nice teas provided by the hosts, LMTCC went out onto the field with 1 goal, take 10 wickets.
F. Shazhad opened with C.Wood and the 2 bowled some good lines causing some early problems for the Alfas batters. The first wicket coming in the 4th over as C.Wood got T. Meylon to edge one to R.Tedder in the slips. The counter attack from Alfas came along after the wicket as J. Perman came in and got off to a flyer hitting 4 boundaries in his first 6 balls. C.Wood and F. Shazhad continued attacking and eventually got the Wicket off J. Perman when F. Shazhad managed to get him to nick one to keeper, K.Wood. 57/2 off 7 overs.
A. Raza joined G.Compton at the crease but the change in bowling to Ab. Hussain and D.Mcclements was just to Alfas batters liking as 54 runs came from the next 4 overs.
A wicket breakthrough came as M. Wilson-Pestel came on to bowl and claimed the wicket off A. Raza in his first over, stumped by K. Wood. Followed by the next over when D. Mcclements claimed his LMTCC wicket bowling out G. Compton with a good Yorker. Unfortunately the 50 from A. Raza and the contribution of G.Comptons 33 meant the 2 new batters only needed 1 run to win. Which came the following over.
A defeat by 6 wickets with 25 overs to spare in what was a comprehensive win for Sporting Alfas Cricket Club in their first league game of 2024. Here is how the LMTCC bowlers did trying to defend the low total.
F. Shazhad 48/1 off 5 overs
C. Wood 20/1 off 4 overs
Ab. Hussain 40/0 off 2 overs.
D. Mcclements 18/1 off 3 overs
M.Wilson-Pestel 13/1 off 2.4 overs
Catches from R.Tedder and K.Wood and a stumping from K.Wood too.
2 losses from 2 in the 40 over league with 4 games left in the competition. Alfas take 20 points from the game whilst LMTCC only manage 4.
LMTCC have 1 week to recompose themselves, have a training session and regroup. As in 2 weeks from now, we host Levante Cricket Club
