WINNING STARTS FOR FISHERMAN`S INN AND ST GEOEGE´S CRICKET CLUB
Fisherman´s Inn and St George`s CC started off their season with convincing wins against Commitments and Collegio Hispano Colts respectively.
In the Fisherman`s v Commitments game the Fisherman´s won the toss and decided to bat. That decision seemed to be justified when the home team scored 268 for 6 off their allocated 30 overs. As all league games in Lanzarote are 30 overs, (not the 45 overs as in the mainland leagues) the bonus points for batting and bowling totals are slightly different. Once Fisherman`s passed the 235 mark they secured their 5th and final batting point and they were firmly in the driving seat at the interval.
A fine 111 not out by Craig Trapps was the mainstream of the Fisherman`s innings, and he was ably supported by Ryan Howarth, who scored 49. In reply, Commitments were always struggling to match the Fisherman`s total and despite a battling 56 from Paul Stenson the away side were all out for 129 off 20.4 overs. Howarth followed up on his 49 by taking 4 for 16 for the Fishermans, and the home side ended up with maximum points from their first game of the season.
St George opened their account in similar fashion against the youthful Collegio Hispano Colts.St George won the toss, elected to bat and amassed a huge 300 for 9 off their 30 overs. Craig Andrews scored 177 not out for the hosts whilst George Goodin can be pleased with his bowling performance, which saw him grab 3 wickets for 20 runs.
Chasing over 10 runs an over it was never going to be easy for the Colts but thanks to a battling 33 by Ian Collins they put up a fine effort, making 122 all out off 20.4 overs. Pete Starmer, had impressive bowling figures for the home side, bowling four tight overs for just two runs and one wicket. With St George also receiving maximum points they now join The Fisherman`s Inn at the top of the league table after two rounds.
