Several games to place last weekend along the Eastern coast of Spain. The Sporting Alfas second team swept aside Torrevieja in two Twenty20 games whilst Madrid United saw off city rivals Alcorcon at La Manga in an ECCL 1 tie.
In the first of the two Twenty20 games between Alfas and Torrevieja Alfas batted first and scored 153 for four. The prolific Spencer Dawes scored 32 in quick time before being needlessly run out, and he was well supported by Chris Cooper and Jamie Roper who both made contributions to the Alfas total.
In reply Torrevieja mustered up 90 runs from their twenty overs, with Jon Algar top scoring with 32. The 63 run victory gave Alfas 17 points and Torrevieja 4.
In the second game teenagers Kieron Wood and Michael Carter opened for Torrevieja. They grafted hard and put on a sizeable partnership before Wood was bowled. Jon Algar and Jack Webster also made telling scores as Torrevieja finished on 109 for 4.
Alfas strode out in confident mood, but Nix and Dawes were both bowled off their pads from balls that were originally missing their stumps. However, former Spanish junior international Jamie Roper is in fine form with the bat at the moment and he saw his sie home with a fine 42 not out. Alfas got another 17 points from the game whilst Torrevieja went home with 3 points.
La Manga was the venue for the capital city derby betwee Madrid United and Alcorcon. Alcorcon batted first and made 141 all out off 38.1 overs. Asif and Rizwan were the pick of the bowlers taking four and three wickets respectively.
Madrid United chased down the total with two wickets to spare. Rizwan made 63 with the bat to add to his three wickets, whilst former Spanish international Akmal took four wickets with his spin bowling for a cost of just 32 runs.
Madrid United took 18 points from the game and Alcorcon just 6 points.
