WEEKEND ROUND UP FROM LA MANGA
Wins for La Manga, Alcorcon and Madrid 2 over the weekend at the Murcia resort as the league season comes to a close in ECCL1
Alcorcon easily disposed of Madrid and took maximum points in the process. Spanish international Tariq Ali had a great day all round scoring 158 with the bat and taking 3 cheap wickets with the ball.
The following day La Manga also beat Madrid in a much closer game with only 30 runs the difference. La Manga batted first and found themselves struggling at 24 for 4. However an 114 run stand between Farhat Mahmood (72) and Ravi Panchal (25) gave La Manga a final score of 188 all out.
In reply Madrid could only muster 158 with Manny Fernandez top scoring with 37. Atif Ali and Sajid Ali both took 3 wickets each to gave La Manga 18 points. Madrid received 7 points but two of those were deducted from their final tally for not having a designated scorer.
Madrid´s second XI faired better with a narrow victory over winless Mojacar. Madrid were all out for 129 with Viabin contributing 53 of his teams total. Mojacar skipper Dave Redpath was again on song with the ball, taking 3 wickets, as did is team mate Winter.
In reply, Mojacar were bowled out just one run short of a century to lose the game by 30 runs. The Almeria side play their final game of the season next weekend against La Manga as they search for that first elusive league win of the temporada.
