The Valencia school, IES La Canyada visited Sporting Alfas today to learn about the sport of cricket, and take part in the Criiio program that is dedicated to children learning and playing the sport for the very first time at an entry level.
The invitation from Alfas saw 62 boys and girls learn the basic skills of batting, bowling and fielding, with assistance from coaches Mark Perman, Andrew McCulloch and Neil Brook. Alfas members Tyler Hogan-Brown, Clinton Mathis, Stian Erlimo and John Braithwaite also helped out with the training session.
The school, are spending the week in the Alfas region, and had previously planned to try this new sport to them before Covid intervened. . Many thanks to everyone at Sporting Alfas Cricket Club for making this day happen.
After the cricket the club laid on some lunch for the children which gave everyone time to reflect on the morning events, Head teacher Elena was very keen on teaching cricket at school with the support from Cricket Espana to introduce the Crillo program in September, once the school returns after the summer holiday.
