UNPRODUCTIVE WEEKEND FOR MADRID
It was an unproductive weekend for Madrid in La Manga last weekend as both the first and second teams failed to record a victory between them
The second team lost both their matches against Orihuela and San Fulgencio respectively and the first team did not fare much better as they lost both their games as well against Valencia Green and Madrid United.
First up for the seconds were in form Orihuela. Orihuela won the toss and elected to field. Madrid posted a respectable total of 180 for 8 to take 3 batting points from their performance.
This total, was soon surpassed by Orihuela. Opener D Haymes continued his excellent form with 71 and this was bettered by G Singh who scored 73 not out to steer the visitors home by 7 wickets
19 points for Orihuela and 4 points for Madrid
Sunday saw Madrid 2 entertain Orihuela´s neighbours San Fulgencio in another league game. Again the hosts lost the toss and were put into bat. The batting performance again scored bonus points by posting 150 all out, but like yesterday it was a respectable rather than challenging score, The star for SFL was the bowler Kant who took 7 wickets.
SFL charged down the total in 37.5 overs with 4 wickets in hand. Opener Lee Blann put SFL on their way with 39, and it was finished off by Jack Webster (26 not out) and Colin Grifiths (7 not out) to end a long SFL losing streak and give them a much needed victory. 19 points obtained by SFL whilst Madrid 2 just took 5 points from the game
Madrid first team -In the game against Madrid United the opposition made 241 all out with Hafeez scoring 104.In reply Madrid scored 173 for 9 to lose by 72 runs.
In the second game for the first team Madrid lost out to Valencia Green by 52 runs in a low scoring game. Green scored an under par 130 all out but their bowling was on fire as they dismissed Madrid for a paltry 68. Green took 17 points from the match and Madrid took 5.
Madrid´s next match is against La Manga on October 1st at La Manga resort.
