Madrid United and Madrid CC sized up against each other at Sonseca in the first ECCL Division One league match for each team this season and it was United who came out on top with a maximum points victory.
Batting first Madrid were all out for just 196. There were notable contributions from Simon Tetlow (48) and Ted Miller (31 not out)but it was the United bowlers that came out on top. Jimmy ashraf took three for 24 and Shahzad two for 14 to make United firm favourites at the interval stage.
The United batting did not disappoint, and it was Shahzad and Ashraf once again, that proved to be problematic for the Madrid bowling attack. Shahzad hit a quick fire 71 and Ashraf scored 44 as United breezed past the required total with seven wickets in hand.
The twenty points from the game put Madrid United on top of the league table at this early stage of the season whilst Madrid CC took four points from the game.
Many thanks to Murari and Imran Younus of Madrid Star for umpiring the game.
