Triskell Taverners and Madrid CC II kicked off proceedings in the Madrid Regional League and it was Madrid who came out on top in a closely fought contest at the Polo Ground.
Madrid CC won the toss and elected to bat on a sunny day in the capital city. It was a day to remember for the Madrid president Jon Woodward who made his maiden century for the club. He was finally out for 101 as his side posted a total of 219 for 8 off their 40 overs. For Triskell Tony provided a tidy spell of bowling taking 4 wickets for just 24 runs.
In reply, Triskell kept par with the required run rate but crucially lost wickets at regular intervals. Opener Joe managed a fine 92 but Triskell were finally all out for 198, just 21 runs shy of victory. Tom was the pick of the Madrid bowlers taking four wickets for 22 runs.
Madrid CC (19 points) beat Triskell (7 points) by 21 runs.
