After last weekends game at Sonseca was washed out due to a heavy downpour the Madrid Regional league finally got under way with Madrid II entertaining league newcomers Triskell Taverners.
Madrid batted first and scored 125 all out of 27.1 overs. Sumon Hossain top scored for Madrid, notching up 45 runs in the process and he was well supported by Sarrangapani who added 19 runs to the Madrid cause.
For Triskel, Tony was the pick of the bowlers taking 3-31. The Taverners batting struggled against the penetrative bowling attack of Madrid and could only manage 83 all out from 23.5 overs. Tony completed a good day for him personally by amassing 36 runs of the Triskel total. Unfortunately, none of his team mates made double figures to give Madrid a comfortable 42 run victory.
Sumon Hossain took two wickets to also cap a good performance with the bat and ball, but special mentions must go to Spaniard Miguel Angel Combarros making his league debut and 18 year-old Waqas Ahmed (Madrid) who took 5-13 in a match winning bowling performance.
