ALFAS PLAY SECOND FIDDLE TO GEDLING AND SHERWOOD

Too Cold For Spanish Cricketers-Sunday Report

On A very cold day at the Woodbridge Oval in Albir, the home skipper decided to bat first to see if the sun would come out later. Not the best decision as it got colder and SACC plumeted to 2-2 with both openers falling for ducks. To add to the home sides misery Afzal was unluckily run out at the non strikers end when batting well, as the Sherwood bowler touched a straight drive from Wasim onto the stumps with the Spanish international marginally out of his ground.
Wasim Ul Rehamn put this disappointment behind him and went on to make a very useful 58 runs, before falling to a good catch in the deep, He was assisted by Duncan Brown who carried on the form he had shown on his debut with a useful contribution despite a self inflicted hangover from the night before and with a few late cameos by the Alfas tail enders the home side reach 156 all out from their full 40 overs
All the Sherwood bowlers returned good figures with the spinner Blake taking 4-14 to be the pick of the attack. Gedling came out positively and started well and kept up with the run rate before both openers fell within an over of each other.
Young Jaime Roper produced the best spell of his short playing career with 4 overs for 14 runs which included a six and a four off consecutive balls (effectively he bowled 3.4 overs for 2 runs). The batting attack will be one of the strongest Alfas will face all year, and the home side stuck to their task gamely but had no answer to the Gedling batsman Blake who produced a match winning performance to steer his side home.
Another 30 runs for Alfas would have made for an exciting finish but the home side finally went down by 5 wickets to the touring side. Next up for Alfas are home games with Costa rivals La Manga and Albox on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22cd of February respectively.
