TOM MAYNARD TRUST XI V SPANISH NATIONAL ACADEMY
On Friday 27th February, La Manga Club in the Murcia Region of Spain, will be the host to two x Twenty 20 Matches starting at midday.
This will be the second year that the Tom Maynard Trust Academy end their twelve day pre-season, warm weather training with a visit to La Manga for a day of cricket, followed by a dinner with their hosts at LA Manga Cricket Club.
On Thursday 19th February the group arrive in Spain and spend 11 days at the grass net facility at Desert Springs Resort, which will also this year, alongside Sport Europe / Sport Arabia Worldwide, host the first team squads from Sussex CCC and Somerset CCC.
The Tom Maynard Trust was established in 2012 following Tom’s tragic death, to provide support to young cricketers making their way in the game. Over the past 2 years this has expanded into areas such as providing grants for aspiring athletes across all sports and providing educational and awareness support for youngsters making their way in professional sport.
The cricket academy has been established to provide the leading youngsters from the professional county circuit with support and coaching from leading coaches, including former England stars, Matt Maynard, Paul Nixon and Australian World Cup Winner Ian Harvey.
The Spanish National Academy will again provide stern opposition throughout 2 x 20 Twenty matches starting at midday. Under the new management of Manuel Fernandez, and the watchful eye of national coach Bobby Denning, the squad is made up from leading players within the Spanish league.
