THREE CENTURIONS AND FIVE HUNDRED RUNS AS ALFAS OVERCOME MADRID

A fantastic days cricket was enjoyed by all at the Woodbridge Oval today as over 500 runs were scored and three players made centuries as the batsmen took centre stage in the second game of the Sporting Alfas against Madrid double header.

Batting first Madrid posted a very tasty 250 for 9 with Solani making a fine century for the visitors. Alfas chairman Kevin Laundon toiled tirelessly in the hot sun on a pitch offering very little to the bowlers to end with figures of 3-54.

Sporting Alfas approached the competitive total confidently and spectators were treated to a fantastic 190 run partnership between Pennick and Crompton after Ward was dismissed cheaply for the batting side.

Complementing each other and scoring freely both players managed to reach three figures before the end of the day and both remained unbeaten as the Albir based club breezed past the total set by Madrid with overs to spare.

Madrid can count themselves unlucky in only taking four points from a match they contributed much to, whilst Alfas will be hoping the bowling point dropped will not be a major factor in weekes to come as the title chase hots up.

Cricket in Spain was the winner today and congratulations to both clubs in serving up a great game of cricket.
