CATALAN CUP ENDS WITH GREAT SUCCESS
The Catalan Cricket Cup, with a name change from the independence Cup was again celebrated with great success in Barcelona on 17th August with a grand final played between Catalunya Tigers cricket club and Catalunya cricket club. Both teams same as last year played the final match. Catalunya tigers the champions of the independence cup 2013 defended their title to remain champions of the Catalan cup 2014.
With the participation 14 teams; 22 Yards CC, Barcelona CC, Barcelona Eagles CC, Catalunya CC, Catalunya Colasque CC, Catalunya Tigers CC, City Lions CC, Girona CC, Girona Warriors CC, Empuria Brava CC, Falco CC, Fondo CC, Minhaj CC, Santa Coloma CC. In the most thrilling quarter finals played between Girona CC and Catalunya CC, Girona CC managed to eliminated all Catalunya CC team in 87 runs, but the thrill remained as Catalunya CC defended the 87 runs and won the match. Again the same thing happened in the semis as Minhaj CC got eliminated Catalunya CC on 94, but the expert team Catalunya CC again defended the 94 runs and won the semifinal to play the grand final with Catalunya Tigers, the last years champions.
Catalunya tigers batted very well and set a huge target of 180 runs in 20 overs, Catalunya CC managed to reach to 151 runs only and the tigers remained the champions. Samar from Catalunya Tigres batted and bowled very well, as the limited Catalunya CC to 151 runs only. Samar was named man of the match of the grand finale. Sufian from Santa Coloma CC was named as best batsman of the tournament and Yasir ali from Catalunya CC as the best bowler of the tournament.
In the presentation ceremony the guest of honors Mr. Murad Ashraf Janjua the consular general of Pakistan in Barcelona and Mr. Muhammad Aslam Ghauri the Vice Consular General of Pakistan in Barcelona among other guests with the presence of all executive committee of Catalan cricket federation Mr. Khalid Shabaz Akhtar, Mr. Robert Masih Nahar, Mr. Nisar Ahmed, Mr. Adnan Malik, Mrs. Marta Marzal and Mr. Adnan Quraishy, congratulated all teams for their efforts and specially the both teams who played the final match. The champions Catalunya Tigers CC and the runners up Cataluyna CC received their respective trophies.
Later the president Mr. Khalid Shabaz Akhtar thanked to all the guests fot their presence and the tournament management committee, the umpires and the scorers. He especially appreciated the great work done by Mr.Robert Masih Nahar, Mr. Adnan Malik and Mrs. Marta Marzal for their efforts to make the tournament a great success.
