Sporting Alfas against Intellectuals at the Woodbridge Oval were the latest two matches contested in the ECCL T Twenty competition and it was the home side that prevailed in both cases.
In match one Sporting Alfas batted first and secured a competitive total of 177 for two from their twenty over allocation. The Intellectuals did start well, getting Hamza Kayani out for nought from the second ball he faced, but then Faran Afzal and Tommy Knowles went on to torment the visitors deep bowling attack deep into the Alfas innings.
Afzal went for 64, but Knowles was joined by Chritian Munoz Mills and the pair saw the innings through without another blemish in the wickets column. Knowles made a half century and finished with 52 runs, whilst the Spanish international captain Mills ended 27 not out off just twelve balls. Mirza took both wickets to fall for the Intellectuals.
The team from Alicante fought bravely to try and overcome the Alfas total but finished their innings all out for 113 at the end of the nineteenth over. Mirza continued to be an influence on the match, scoring 68 for the visitors, whilst Kyle Roper and Antonio Gomez Brown took three wickets each for Alfas at a combined cost of just 34 runs.
Match two also went the way of the hosts in the form of a comprehensive ten wicket victory. Batting first the visitors scored 111 all out. Iqbal was going well until he was stumped on 43 and Nadeem contributed 19 runs to the Intellectuals course. The wickets were equally shared among the Alfas bowlers, with six of the seven bowlers used taking at least one Intellectual wicket.
Alfas went untroubled in chasing down the total, securing the points in just 56 balls. Openers Faran Afzal and Rhys Fowler scored at the same pace and both ended up with half centuries. 14 extras were added to the tally as Alfas finished on 114 for 0.
Match One – Sporting Alfas 177 for 2 beat Intellectuals 113 all out by 64 runs.
Match Two – Sporting Alfas 114 for 0 beat Intellectuals 111 all out by ten wickets.
