SPENCER CENTURY GUIDES ALFAS TO VICTORY
Sporting Alfas made it four wins out of four with victory in the latest Costa League 1 game to be played. Alfas won the toss and put La Manga into bat. The home side started well until Joel Brook holed out to Munoz at cover point off the bowling of Lupson with the score on 18.
Mahmood played some good shots to move the score to 51 before he was the next man to go when caught by Howden off the bowling of Munoz for 26. The needless run out of Neil Brook with the La Manga total on 74 left the home side stuttering a little after its good start. An 82 run partnership between Munib and Parker gave La Manga two batting points before a complete mix up between the batsmen led to Parker sacrificing his wicket for Alfas to gain its second bowling point.
The loss of this wicket led to a mini collapse amongst the La Manga middle order and thanks to some accurate spin bowling from Taylor and Wasim the hosts saw their total disintingrate to 185 for 9. Stubborn resistance from Wambeek and Talat nearly earned La Manga a further batting point, but they fell just two runs short of that when Wasim clean bowled Talat for 25 after the final pair had put on 38 for the last wicket.
Alfas came out aggressively, scoring at over 5 an over and the score had moved rapidly on to 89 before Ali was bowled by Amoi for 36 in the 14th over. Pennick and Crompton went cheaply, but Wasim played a sensible innings in supporting Spencer who was in sublime form. The pair saw the visitors comfortably home with Spencer ending up on 128 not out, in what was quite possibly, his best ever innings in Alfas colours.
Alfas are now firmly entrenched at the top of the Costa League 1 and they must now be considered firm favourites to progress to the latter stages of this season`s competition.
