Sporting Alfas II played Madrid II at the Woodbridge Oval last Saturday and the home side came away victorious by six wickets.
Alfas won the toss and put the visitors into the field. Youngsters Tyler Brown and Kieran Preman opened the bowling and soon had Madrid reduced to 21 for 2 with Brown taking both wickets.
Bancroft and Hussein set about rebuilding the Madrid innings and took the score to 67 for 3 by the 20th over. The introduction of Paul Taylor and Shazad Mahmood curbed the visitors recovery and took a string of wickets each to restrict Madrid to 165 all out in the 44th over.
Taylor ended up with final figures of 2-34 and Shazad Mahmood posted even better figures of 4-50 at the interval.
In reply Bobby Nix and Neil McKinstry started well against an hostile Madrid bowling attack and despite a slowish start were 35 without loss after 12 overs. Nix then had to retire after being hit on the grill, his replacement Abdul Wajid picked up the pace and along with Mckinstry but on 70 for the next wicket.
McKinstry departed for a well deserved half century, and then Wajid and Tyler Brown saw the game effectively home as the batted sensibly to creep ever close to the Madrid total. Wajid finally departed for 64 but by that time it was academic as Alfas surpassed the required total with three overs and six wickets to spare.
Madrid took 5 points from the game whilst Alfas got the full 24 points. Thanks to Geoff Evans of Sporting Alfas for the match report.
