Sporting Alfas strengthened their grip at the top of the ECCL Premier Division today with a convincing win over Valencia Star at the Woodbridge Oval.
Having won the toss the visitors decided to bat first and they started off well with Yasir in particular in sparkling form. The Valencia batsmen hit a quickfire 58 off just 22 balls.
However, the introduction of Faran Afzal changed the context of the game and the former Spanish International took four for 14 as the Valencia Star innings crumbled. The visitors were finally all out for just 128, claiming a second batting point by just three runs.
Alfas did lose more wickets than expected in chasing down the low total but they finally won the game by five wickets. This was largely due to a fine half century by Christian Munoz-Mills and an unbeaten 33 from Adam Algar.
Alfas I’s other game in a double headed weekend has unfortunately been cancelled because Madrid I are unable to get enough players to travel. Consequently, Sporting Alfas are awarded maximum points and Madrid are deducted twenty points from their current league total.
