Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas 1st X1 196 for 5 beat Nomads C.C 194 for 7
SPORTING ALFAS CRICKET CLUB
SACC welcomed back the return of the Nomads CC for their 18th year, losing the toss SACC were asked to bowl first , and with the youth being pushed this year opened the bowling with Roper and K Perman.
Nomads lost their opener Farell early, before the Skipper Brockton came in at three and battered sensibly against some good all round bowling from the Alfas attack.
Spin twins Taylor and Crompton were proving hard to get away , claiming a couple of wickets for their troubles, before Smith helped Brockton put on 69 for the 4th wicket .
Wickets then started to fall regularly, including another run out from skipper Fletcher, the second match on the trot. Brockton was eventually out for 63 and Nomads finished on 194/7 with Roper being the most economical.
SACC’s response started badly with Pennick out to one that kept low and he was then followed by Munoz who also fell cheaply.
Gomez-Brown and Brook steadied the ship putting on 52 for the third wicket against some experienced bowling. Then the experienced Crompton came in for his first knock of the season and his first scoring shot was a six over cover , he was looking very comfortable and in good nick when putting on a 65 run partnership with captain Ben Fletcher, before missing a straight one and avoiding a jug on 49.
Fletcher (38) carried his team to the finish line, along with Shaz Mohammad, who finished the game off with a huge six.
With ten of the eleven players under 40 things are really looking up for the club. Anybody wishing to join or get involved please contact the chairman Kevin Laundon 637120660.
Friday 21st March sees the return of Harpenden CC against XL Club, and Saturday, local side Levante play against SACC 1st X1. Both 1pm start.
