Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas 1st X1 214 for 4 beat Tottenhoe C.C 126 all out
On a glorious Spring day, the Woodbridge Oval welcomed for the 15th year on the trot Tottenhoe CC from Bedfordshire.
Winning the toss SACC were asked to bat and with a mixture of experience and youth opened up with Spanish national Antonio Gomez-Brown and the mighty experience of Geoff Evans.
With the pressure of the first team eyes on them, cautious was the approach, until a loose shot from Evans saw another youth team player come and go in Roper.
This brought the introduction of the Kieran Perman who joined A.Brown. With the score at 60-2 and both playing with maturity and punishing the bad balls to the boundary they put on a 99 run partnership before Perman fell for a well constructed 38.
A.Brown not out on 80 was joined by his younger brother Tyler Brown who protected his sibling and kept him off strike for a lot of the nervous nineties before A.Brown finally managed to push one into the covers and celebrate accordingly with hugs aplenty. He retired after scoring 100 off 102 balls which included fifteen 4s .
Only a couple of overs were left and SACC managed a respectable 214-4 off 40 overs . The pick of the Tottenhoe bowlers was Wood with 2-34 .
A very social tea was had by all and the Lutonians started very watchful in their approach with the only runs coming off extras with the first few overs with the new ball going to the youngsters of T. Brown and Kieran Perman and birthday boy Pennick noticeable sulking at mid off !!!
The Tottenhoe CC innings never really got going with the top score being extras at 31. The SACC 1st X1 wrapped things up within 30 overs with the visitors score on 126. The skipper brought himself on to take the “rabbits” at the end. All the team bowled and fielded well but more effort on the wides needs to be considered for the future when matches could be much closer.
Next weekend sees the Michael Blumberg bring his mighty Nomads, back visiting for their 17th year to Alfas. They generally bring a strong side pre UK season so a lot of the first team wil be back for this one .
