Match report

First time guests Tottington arrived at the Woodbridge Oval and were surprised at the ground position and excellent facility the Home team enjoy weekly.

SACC won the toss and elected to bat as many of the Tottington players had over done the Benidorm welcome.
Spencer and Munoz strode out to face a torrid welcome that many league players would be shocked at, but this as always gives the players true grit, Spencer as always led the attack and really looked in good nick, striking the ball to all parts, has our visitors becan to realize they might be in for a long day. Munoz enjoyed both the confrontation and the pace our worthy opponants generated, playing has if opening for Alfas was his right, good to see from our home grown youngster.

The score reached 144 when Munoz(55) popped one up and gave Tottington thier first scalp, shortley after Spencer pulled up apparently lame, after reaching his first 100 this year. 181 for 1 from 25, this retirement gave Pennick and Fletcher the chance to put the game out of reach, 20 more runs were added before Pennick fell for 7. Captain Laundon joined Fletcher and a further 5 added to the total when Fletcher played all around what was later descibed as an moonball, 10 overs had passed for only 30 runs a great fight back. Crompton and Laundon took the score past 250 when the Captain tried dabble to thhird man that gulley exepted as catching practise. Crompton finished on 29 with Brown on 8, A reasonable total of 272.

Tottington Cricket Club enjoyed a fantastic tea, served in the marque along with the host team, before setting of in chase of 273 for the win.
SACC youngster Roper stormed in from the top end revelling in the challange in front of him, Club pro and skipper for Tottington Steve Dearden and SA born Haynes, both in fine form and enjoying the eveness that an artificial wicket brings.

On reaching a very quick 19 Deardon over reached and gave Munoz a very difficult chance wide at gully, Munoz plucked the ball out of the air at full stretch left handed, possibly the best catch at the Oval. 5 balls later Haynes(29) decided to follow his captain and give Munoz and Roper thier second scalp.

Things were looking good for SACC with two good batsmen in the cabin, but S Marsh, undeniably a great player, took matters into his own hands and played superbly matching the SACC bowling in a long battle that only came to an end after another Munoz catch this time off Waqar. 2 LBW’s and a very good McCheyne 43, S Dearden 116 hitting the winning runs in the 38th over. This was a great days cricket followed by a great nights reminising.
550 runs from 80 overs this is better than T20 and free but only here at the Woodbridge Oval, Albir.
No one left the game until the end even though the moon was the only light left to watch this fantastic finish.
Next week look out for regular visitors Tottenhoe, Friday VS Spains over 40’s and then Saturday they take on a first X1 who will be looking for a win.
Sunday, local team Interlectuals take on the 2nd X1 who enjoyed a win against the Tottington Social team on Sunday.

Testimonial fom Tottington Cricket Club

From all at Tottington St Johns Cricket Club I would like to extend our thanks to everyone at Sporting Alfaz CC. Our cricket weekend was amazing from start to finish. Both games of cricket were played in the true spirit of the game and to a good standard and everyone at your club made us fell very welcome.

A special thanks to those who helped on the day and especially the Bar/Catering staff whose cricket Teas just hit the spot and gave us one of the best pints of Carling (Greatly appreciated by all our lads)

Not forgetting the umpires, the club would like to thank the umpires from both days who did a marvellous job and were really good company
after the game. I can now see why your cricket club is fully booked most of the season. We enjoyed ourselves so much maybe we could come back and do it again someday.

I would definitely recommend your cricket club to any touring cricket side.

Please would you bring this email to all concerned at your club
Finally from myself and Tottington St John Cricket Club I would like to wish your club a very successful season in 2012 and all the very best
for the future.
Regards ,
Martin
