Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas 1st X1 274 for 7 beat Theale C C 178 for 7

Theale CC kindly offered SACC the option to bat first which the home side excepted. Easiest decision on the day was the number 1 batting position, Kieran Perman deservedly given the fact that he had managed to reach 20 years old and possibly drank a pint per year the evening before.

Faran Afsal opened with him in a brand new look to the SACC batting line up. Theale bowlers also felt the need to keep KP from resting his head and did not bother bowling a straight one until the end of the fourth over KP back in the changing room for 1. A. Alger batting at his usual number three spot, took the score past 100 along with F, Afsal when the latter finally miss cued one and was well caught in the deep by Holder off the bowling of first change Cooper. A, Alger (48) followed shortly after chipping one to R Why at short cover. A, Brown looked in good nick and scored a quick 19 before holing out in the deep to R Why. P, Harvey (1) entered and left quickly. R, Shenkman joined by J. Ahmad and watched gleefully as Ahmad spanked the ball to all corners of the farm yard. Finally being taken by, that man again, R Why at cow corner. A, Wajid joined R. Shenkman and the pair hit a few lusty blows before A, Wajid (13) guided one to the elder Why at gully. T, Neil joined R, Shenkman and watched as the in form man hit some mighty blows to finish unbeaten on 66 but importantly giving SACC a defendable 274 total.

A cricketer´s day would not be complete without an hearty tea to tuck into, and the home teams ladies prepare just such a feast. Most players would be happier to finish the day at this point but twenty minutes of rushed food is all our extremely efficient umpire Mr V. O´Reilly will allow.

Back onto the field of play and Skipper K, Laundon staying with the plan chucked the new ball to the birthday boy and asked him to work tirelessly running down hill with the wind at his back. K:P. had not read the script and bowled extremely well through his head pain, C, Wood accompanied him and at the 9 over mark although neither had taken a wicket only 37 runs were on the scoreboard, A, Wajid and J, Ahmad took over, and again showed the depth that SACC enjoy, both men beating the bat regularly and nipping out White, Cooke and A, Why. Holder and R, Why seemed to have plenty of time so A, Afsal was introduced to quicken up proceedings this tactic worked as Holder was brilliantly caught by Harvey at square leg.

Then Morris skied one of the same bowler which A, Alger calmly claimed behind the stumps. It was time to introduce a more sporting attack so A, Brown was asked to take over from P, Harvey at the top end and T, Neil from F, Afsal at the bottom end. A, Brown gleefully got one past the hard hitting R, Why (34) and removed middle stump all be it half way up with out bouncing on the way down the wicket. R, Sankaram also reaching 30 runs after A, Brown had dropped him on 0 became the final wicket of the day when he chipped a ball from A, Brown to J, Ahmad at mid off. Theale CC reaching a score of 178 for 7 from the allotted 35 over session.
