Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas 1st X1 331 for 10 beat Munich C C 118 for 10
Munich Cricket Club visited Albir on this beautiful sunny day, full of hope after a win against the SACC XL club the previous day, Unfortunately the first team are a different set up. Winning the toss by default SACC skipper requested that the home team be allowed to set a score.
Despite an excellent spell by the Munich opening bowlers Alfas Openers Laundon and Crompton took the score along at a steady 6 an over, reaching 85 before Crompton (46) holed out at deep mid wicket, off the bowling of Scott.
Next over Laundon (46) followed in the same fashion. 101 for 2 from 16 overs. Muñoz (12) followed in the same fashion and then Pennick with out troubling the scorers was run out when Nadeem unexplainably dropped the easiest of catches onto the bowling end stumps leaving Pennick stranded. 135 for 4 at drinks, would this become a disastrous day for SACC.
Easy to predict that it would not, with a batting line up that does not have a tail. Alger the first to reach the 50 run milestone closely followed by Afzal (56) who instead of retiring popped one up and was well caught. Roper (6) came and went, a mighty 6 first ball and then attempting a sweep was adjudged LBW by the very lenient Vincent O´Reilly, K Perman and brother J Perman kept the run rate going and took the total to 290 when J Perman (41) holed out, again well caught in the very short mid wicket area. K Perman then accelerated his tally with a flurry of boundaries retiring on 50.
Wajid (6) was joined by Ali who skied his first ball and was well caught at deep cover. 331 all out.
Chasing a large total is always a difficulty and Munich found that out, although sending in the hitters first, non could cope with Wajid´s line and swing or Ali´s pace. The older heads of Deverill and Scott delayed the fall of wickets but when Skipper Deverill retired on 50 in the 22 over the fall of wickets continued and the introduction of spin attack Crompton 4 for 25 and Muñoz 2 for 6 destroyed the middle and lower order with Munich all out for 118.
Man of the match went to Veith Gatinger who not only caught out the SACC openers also claimed 2 wickets with his unusual bowling and spanked Alfas Spin king Crompton for 10 in two balls. It was indeed another great day down at the Woodbridge Oval, a huge thank you to the many followers of cricket who sit and enjoy the services profided in Spain´s premier cricket spot.
