SPANISH XI TAKE THE BITE OUT OF BARKING

The Spanish Academy side earned their second win in consecutive games with a comfortable victory over Barking Cricket Club.

For the first time in the tournament the locals won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first. Another new opening partnership paired regular Armaghan Khan with Joel Brook.

Brook was unlucky to be run out early on when a direct throw from fine leg saw him out of his ground. Christian Munoz-Mills joined Khan at the crease and both batted aggresively in the power play to move the scoreboard along briskly. Munoz-Mills was the first to fall with the score on 30.

The middle order continued to score quickly and two late cameos by Tanveer Iqbal and Tausef Ali bolstered the Academy score to a final total of 137 all out with the last ball of the twenty overs.

In reply the London based club started well putting on 20 for the first wicket but then a mixture of excellent bowling and fielding stemmed the flow of runs rapidly. Coupled with the fall of wickets at regular intervals the Academy ran home easy winners.

Barking finally were all out for 87 to give the local team a win by 50 runs. Next up for Spain will be Chester Broughton Hall CC, with the winners of that encounter having an outside chance of overtaking Waltham CC at the top of the table.
