Spanish Select XI V Tom Maynard Trust Academy

A young Spanish selection faced the Tom Maynard side in two T20 games in Desert Springs Resort in Almeria.  These were the first competitive games on the new grass wicket that have been developed over the last 10 months.

Spain, batting first, failed to bat out their allocated overs.  The long boundaries were too distant for some attempted sixes, leading to relatively easy catches. P Hennessey top scored for Spain.  Bernard was pick of the bowlers with 3 for 12 off 3.5 overs.

The Tom Maynard side made slow work of reaching the adjusted total of 151, achieving the target only on the last ball after the los of 5 wickets. Top scorers were Oxley, 69, and Billy Root (Joe’s brother) 51. Hennessey took both of these wickets.

In the second game Tom Maynard set a challenging target of 196, with the loss of only two wickets. A strong (and cold) wind was used intellegently to secure the total.

Moores reached 118 not out and Root again featured with an unbeaten 49. J Perman took two wickets for a costly 59 runs off his 4 overs.

Spain batted more convincingly than in the first game for a total of 115 all out.  T Vine top scored with 33.
