SPANISH NATIONAL FINALS – ST GEORGE V SPORTING ALFAS

The Spanish National Finals kicked off today with a clash between the Lanzarote champions St George CC and the ECCL Champions Sporting Alfas CC.

The islanders won the toss and elected to bat first. They posted a total of 167 for 7 from their forty overs with Andy French top scoring with a well grafted 40 runs. For Alfas Jack Perman and Wasim Butt took two wickets apiece to put the ECCL side in a strong position at the interval.

The Alfas innings did not start as planned as the lost two early wickets with just 18 on the board. However, a century plus partnership between Spanish international Faran Afzal and Wasim Butt turned the game in Sporting’s favour and they finally overtook the St George score in the 29th over with six wickets in hand.

Tomorrow St George are back on duty again against Cataluyna Tigers and then Sunday the team from the North of Spain will take on Sporting Alfas to determine who are this years National Champions.

Sporting Alfas 168 for 4 (W Butt 72, F Afzal 59) beat St George 173 for 7 (A French 40) by six wickets.
