A mixed squad of of our ECCL Spanish Academy played an experienced Stowe School U15 at Pinatar arena, and after a good performance by the U13 the day before, the coaches were hoping for another strong performance.
Stowe batted first scoring 169 for 7 off 35 overs, with strong a bowling performance from the Spanish lads. The pick of the bowlers were Kieran Perman with figures of one wicket for 14 runs off 7 overs and Cieran Quinchard with three wickets for 25 off 7 overs.
Spain in reply got off to a good start and at 67 for 2 off 12 overs were on target to win the game. However, the lose of two quick wickets swung the game Stowe’s way, and despite some gutsy performances by the rest of the Spanish boys they managed to get 144. Tyler Brown top scored with 30, but in the end the hosts had to settle for a 25 run defeat.
Another close game against strong opposition shows there is plenty of talent in Spain’s junior ranks, and both Academy sides performed extremely well and on another day could have won their respective games.
One pleasing note at the end of the match was Cieran Quinchard receiving man of the match award. Big thanks to both Mark Perman and Joel Brook for coaching our youngsters over the past few days.
