STEVE LEWIS – SPORTING ALFAS CRICKET CLUB

It is with great sorrow that Cricket España report the untimely death of Steve Lewis. Steve is well known in the Spanish cricketing circles and he has been a pivotal member of Sporting Alfas Cricket Club for numerous years.

He was voted clubman of the year in 2006 and he was the second team captain for several seasons before taking over the role last season as the Sporting Alfas Director of Cricket.. A real club man, he was always offering his time in promoting the team and he frequently offered his practical skills in making the Woodbridge Oval a better place to watch and play cricket.

His quiet and unasuming personality ensured he was everybodies friend and he will be sorely missed by all at the club, and all those involved in Spanish cricket. Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to Lesley and her family.

All at Cricket España send their sympathy to Steve´s family and friends. If you would like to add comments and condolences, please get in touch.

We are deeply saddened by his departure from our mist and our condolences to his family.

Our payers go with you, a man with grace and dignity that I have come to admire about Steve with not a bad word to say about anyone.

He will be missed from our cricket circle. A very bad day for Spanish cricket.

Director of Spanish Cricket

We are very sad to announce the death of a dear friend and teammate Steve Lewis, who passed away while playing the game he loved on Saturday, the 13th of June.

Steve was the Director of Cricket and an active member of the club for many years, being enthuisiastic with both bat and ball.

He was a lovely guy, a real gentleman and true clubman and everyone at Sporting Alfas Criket Club will miss him.

Our thoughts are with Lesley and the family.

Steve working on new hutI was deeply saddened to hear the news of Steve yesterday. I will always remember him as a gentleman both on and off the pitch, and he was a delight to play with as a teammate, or to play against as an opponent .

Hia attitude towards the game and his respect for colleagues and players was a lesson to everyone associated with the game. I will remember him as a humble man whose greatest attribute was his ability to take pleasure from other peoples successes.

I will miss his supportive cry of “thats the spot John” when I finally managed to pitch a ball in the right spot against an opposing batsman.

My condolesnces go out to Lesley and the family.

I was shocked to hear the sad news about Steve’s death. I am glad that I knew him and will always respect his calm demeanor and sporting attitude. He was a great role model for junior cricketers both on the field and in life.

My thoughts are with Leslie and Catherine at this sad time.

another hut building pictureMay I also take this opportunity to send condolences on behalf of myself and all at the Intellectuals CC: Our condolences go to Lesley, Steve’s family and friends and all at Sporting Alfas CC: on the loss of a true gentleman and ‘clubman’ and a Sporting Alfas captain who epitomised the spirit of the game of cricket; always keen to test team and individual performances; competitive, leading from the front without seeking the limelight; a man passionate about a game that teaches much about life’s ethics – rule of law, codes of conduct, along with freedom of expression with bat and ball. Steve lived and loved the game to the end. He will be sorely missed – both on and off the field.

In Sympathy

Since receiving the news of Steve´s passing on Saturday I have spoken to many cricketers and club members from around Spain who knew or had played against Steve.

The response was a unanimous one of shock and sadness of the loss of a highly respected man and cricketer. On behalf of Cricket España, I would like to pass on our condolences to his family and our thoughts are with them at this sad time.

Phil Beal
Chairman of Cricket España

Steve Lewis, was a modest, unflappable and decent man. He was a loyal club member who epitomised the “spirit of cricket”.

The thoughts and respects of all umpires, players, scorers and spectators are with Lesley, and his family at this most difficult time.

Cricket in Spain will never be the same without Steve, who will never be forgotten by those who knew him and played with or against him.

Ron Graham

Chairman Cricket España League Committee

We were both shocked and saddened to hear the loss of Steve last weekend, myself and my son Joel knew Steve when we visited Alfas from La Manga CC and his involvement with Juniors, Steve was a great lad always helpful and having a laugh on and off the field he would always make an effort to talk to my son about his cricket and give advice only special people have these qualities which Steve had
We will all be thinking of you at these difficult times and I hope we can remember him with a trophy or something for the future so he won’t be forgotten.

Our Sincere condolences

After receiving the news of Steve’s passing on Saturday I could not believe it. He was such a nice man, always keen to help out with anything the club/player needed. He always gave the opportunity to any young cricketers to develop their game by playing them in the Sunday side.

He was such a unique “club man”, very respected by everyone involved in Alfas CC. I would like to pass on my sincere condolences to his family and friends in these difficult times.

Personally as a member of Sporting Alfas, you are unlikely to meet a nicer bloke,  a true professional in the amateur game. Gave his all for the club both on and off the field.
