The Spanish Academy ended the La Manga charity tournament with a victory over Menai CC to claim fifth spot in the eight team competition.

The Spanish team undoubtedly got better as the tournament progressed and arguably saved their best performance until the last game against the team from Wales.

Batting first Spain posted the challenging total of 191 for 6 from their twenty overs. In reply the Welshmen could only reach 133 for 6. Once again Atif Ali was the star performer with the ball. His consistency throughout all the matches led to him being named bowler of the tournament at the Gala Dinner Awards Ceremony.

The event itself was won by United CC who beat Valencia Stallions in the final. Earlier in the day the Stallions had comprehensively beaten Westcroft in the first semi final with S. Bhatti smashing 160 not out in the Stallions mammoth total of 227 for 5 in their twenty overs.

United overcame Waltham CC in the other semi final to ensure the two group winners were matched against each other in the showpiece match.

A big thanks goes to all the members of La Manga Club who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to produce a successful weekend of cricket and to the umpires, scorers and groundstaff for their diligent work throughout the duration of the tournament.
