DENMARK 292 ALL OUT BEAT BY SPAIN 63 ALL OUT BY 174 RUNS
Match Sixteen of the ICC CWC Under 19 qualifier in Europe saw Denmark come out strong winners against Spain at St Margaretsbury Cricket Club in Essex today.
Spain bowling first had the Danish opener Aqdus Raqhman bowled by Riaz off the very first ball of the day to give the Spanish an encouraging start. However, as in previous games they came up against one batsmen in particular who was in scintillating form. This time it was in the shape of Lucky Ali who made a fine century for his country before being clean bowled by Kyle Roper late in the Danish innings.
The Spanish bowlers plucked away throughout the encounter and managed to get all ten wickets on the last ball of the fifty overs. Naureen finished with four for forty from his ten overs and Riaz also bowled well for the fourth game in succession to finish with figures of three for 34 from his six overs. However, with 64 extras given away by the Spanish, Denmark’s final total was just eight shy of 300.
Spain’s task was made even more difficult when opener Charlie Hunt fell with only five on the board. Some resistance was offered by Jack Perman (38) and Sarmad Ali (20) who put on 57 for the second wicket but after they fell in quick succession the innings fizzled out and Spain were eventually bowled out for 118 in the thirteeth over.
As a result of the four loses Spain will play no more games in the competition and will finish in ninth position in the event. Many of the boys in this young squad will be available for selection for this same tournament in two years time and should be able to draw on this experience in future games for the National side.
The squad fly back to Barcelona and Alicante respectively on Friday and next up is the senior tournament in Holland that Spain take part in along with 17 other European countries later this month.
