Spain have claimed another associate scalp, this time the Germans were on the receiving end of a determined Spanish team effort.
Spain had been set a Duckworth-Lewis target of 154 in a rain affected game against Germany in the Isle of Man Division 2 Under 19 match at Vagabonds today
Germany batting first had managed to score 122 for 6 off 28 overs. After calculations were completed by the Duckworth – Lewis operators Spain were given the difficult task of scoring 154 off the same amount of overs.
The match was interrupted again after 24 overs with Spain at 129 for 7 but by this time Spain were ahead on the D-L method by 5 runs. No further play was possible and as Spain were ahead of the run-rate at that time they were declared the winners of the match.
Spain´s final game tommorrow in the group stages is a tough one, against the hosts of the competition, The Isle of Man. The Manx-men have to win well to finish top of the group after their match with Italy today was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
That draw means Spain can no longer win the group but a win against the hosts should be enough to give them second place in Group A. The game is at King Williams College tommorrow and you will be able to follow live updates on the CE website
