Spanish Cricket Association has taken huge strides over the last year in the development of Spanish cricket, with the opening of three new centres of cricket development at Albox CC, La Manga CC and Mojacar CC, to join the existing centre at Sporting Alfas CC.
Director of Cricket George Wambeek and Junior Director of Cricket Neil Brook started the first centre late last year at La Manga CC with just four juniors, on some days we only had two juniors but with a lot of help from local parents the number of juniors who are signed up has reach thirty.
With the interest growing it was decided to arrange a level one coaching course early in 2007 to help with the growing numbers, the coaching was an instant success with Eight coaches passing their level ones, the new appointments will assist the coaches at all four centres in Spain.
La Manga CC had a Cricket Open Day early last month with juniors and parents enjoying a great days cricket, with juniors as young as four years old taking part, juniors and parents from Mojacar CC were invited to take part in the days activities.
It’s hope by next year to start playing league cricket between the centres with at least 3 age groups taking part, this will be a first for Spanish cricket and it’s hope that Spanish cricket start producing more home grown players for the future.
