The Spanish select XI had to settle for the runners up spot in the La Manga Classic as they lost out by a narrow margin to United CC.
The Girona based opponents were playing their third game of the day by the time the final came along and they carried the momentum from the previous two games to start strongly against the Spanish bowlers.
At the end of six overs they were 48 runs without loss and at the half way stage they had laid a solid platform to their innings with a score of 77 for 0.
Spain fought back hard and had a better second half, grabbing a handful of wickets at key times to eventually restrict the visitors to 166 off their full quota of overs.
The hosts were always in the game and at 85 for 2 at the 11 over mark. They continued to stay in the hunt for first prize and required 11 runs for victory from the final over. Unfortunately for Spain the United bowler held is nerve to give his side the trophy.
The weekend of cricket for the Spanish cricket team brought many positives as the team continue to work towards the next ICC European tournament that is expected to be sometime in 2016.
