SPAIN 255 FOR 3 BEAT SWITZERLAND 129 FOR 9 BY 126 RUNS
Spain got back to winning ways with a classy victory over a young Swiss side that included several Under 15 players.
Spain won the toss and elected to bat and despite the loss of an early wicket (Taylor) they looked composed and confident and a totally different batting side to the one that faced Belgium a couple of days ago. Joel Brook stayed firm at one end whilst the classy Garside hit some fantastic ground strokes to contribute a stylish 51 to the Spanish innings. He finally fell to a catch by George off Kuster just one short of a hundred partnership with his La Manga team mate.
With the exit of Garside, captain Munoz came to the crease and played purposefully scoring at regular intervals. Brook continued to play sensibly until he eventually departed with the score on 142 and his personal total standing at 39.
Winter joined Munoz at the crease and the Sporting Alfas pair set about attacking the Switzerland bowling attack as they composed an unbroken partnership of 113 ensuring the Spanish innings finally closed at a formidable 255 for 3. Munoz played beautifully in his chanceless innings of 68 off 65 balls and he was ably supported by Winter who scored 44 off 39 balls.
Switzerland’s reply started unconvincingly with opener Hill bowled by Sunderland for 4 with the score on 11. Spain continued to take wickets at regular intervals with Sunderland, Foster and Winter amongst the Spanish attack contributing to Switzerland’s downfall. Indeed Spain used nine bowlers during the Swiss innings and all the bowlers troubled the bowlers. Testimony to this was that six different players took wickets, and possibly the pick of the bowlers Seekings bowled seven econimical overs for a misery nine runs.
Christian Munoz deservedly picked up the man of the match award and the only dampener for the Spanish camp were back injuries to Garside and Brook that could make both players doubtful for the crunch game with Iberian rivals Gibraltar at Rhinedahlen tommorrow afternoon.
