SPAIN BEAT FINLAND TO GO TOP OF THE TABLE

Spain continued their winning ways with a nervy four wicket victory over Finland. The Finns who sat out the morning session won the toss and elected to bat on the La Manga bottom pitch.

Both openers were dropped early, and took advantage to race to 33 before Tanveer Iqbal eased the local fans nerves by taking a simple catch off Atif Mehmood to remove Zahidullah Kamal. Jonathan Scammans went soon after without troubling the scorers to leave the visitors at 34 for 2 at the end of the fifth over.

The rest of the Finnish batting line up managed to get into double figures but none could really capitalise on their starts, and they ended their innings on 153 for 7. The final total was assisted by mediocre fielding from Spain, who spilled numerous chances and at the interval Spain knew they had a match on their hands.

Armaghan Khan continued his early tournament form with a well manufactured 45 but Tariq Ali failed to light up the stage like he did in Corfu in the previous tournament and fell for 15.

Notable contributions came from Gary Crompton and Farhat Mahmood but the game was in the balanced until a good over for Spain that yielded 14 runs from Bhandari tipped the balance. Nisar Ahmed finished off the job in fine style, remaining unbeaten on 25 as Spain clawed their way to an unconvincing victory with five balls to spare.
