Nearly six hundred runs were scored in the Madrid derby between Madrid CC and Alcorcon CC last weekend as the batsmen had the upper hand all day against both bowling attacks.
Madrid batted first and in stark contrast to their second string, (who had struggled to score runs against Torrevieja the previous day) they gained maximum batting points as they posted a score of 291 for 8.
Australian born Adam Langhans opened for Madrid and scored a fantastic 151 before being bowled by former Spanish international Mohammad Akmal. He was well supported by Balana, who scored 66, in a shared second wicket partnership of 174. Cameos at the end from Chandaramani and Daniel pushed the score past the magic 275 mark and gave Madrid maximum batting points.
As always, Alcorcon´s batting is dictated by the prolific Tariq Ali. When he gives his side a good start then the team usually bat well. Struggling in recent weeks until his international century in Spain´s win over Belgium he has now found his form again, much to the woe of the Madrid bowlers.
The opener scored 172 not out in bringing his team home with twelve overs to spare and 7 wickets in tact. Hassam also did his part for Alcorcon adding 66 not our to the Alcocon total. The pair ended with an unbroken 166 run partnership. Unfortunately, the umpires decreed both teams would have two points deducted for not having designated scorers. Alcorcon took 17 points from the match and Madrid received just 4 points.
The day before Madrid had better luck, beating Madrid United in a comfortable 107 run victory. Madrid batted first and were allout for 196. United´s batting failed miserably and they finished their innings on 89 all out. Their 6 points from the match were reduced to two points for failing foul Rule D3 and failing to get their scorecard in to the ECCL in a timely manner. Madrid took 18 points from the game.
