SPORTING ALFAS CRICKET CLUB 215 VILLAYOSA RUGBY CLUB 95
A new challenge for Villayosa Rugby Club, a game of ´Cricket´. Traveling through Benidorm to the Woodbridge Oval, Albir. Villayosa RC had a pleasant surprise, the home of Sporting Alfas CC is truly an haven for cricket lovers.
After winning the toss and inviting the home team to set a score, Villajosa went about the game with a great enthusiastic performance which left the cricketers envious of the level of fitness the team have, not once did the rugby club not chase the ball with an eagerness that must strike fear into their normal opponents.
The game of cricket actually was secondary to the newly forged friendships made on this memorable day. VRC gave all their lads a bowl, which as we know not easily done, a straight arm over your head and not a throw, they all did an expectational job of it, with a couple of the overseas lads obviously playing in the past and enjoying the day. Alfas reached 215 from the 30 overs.
Quinn and Martinez opened the chase Martinez the first to fall, Phipps joined Quinn and the pair looked comfortable until Quinn mistimed one and became Marriner´s second victim. The next 3 batsmen (Junkma, Reid and Lyones) all falling to the unplayable Marriner who ended with a five for 11.
Phipps meanwhile was enjoying the day playing some lovely strokes from all the bowlers and when joined by skipper Hall took on the challenge, eventually nicking one from SACC most expensive bowler Lupson, out for a well played 25. Hall and Querky carried on and when the latter fell for 13 it was all but over for the VRC team. Hall the last man out for 28 doing a super job on and off the field.
SACC would like to thank the Villayosa Rugby Club for taking the time out of an especially important year to participate in this game.
