Captain’s very own match report
Match report 4th June 2017
As it turned out we seemed to be playing the 8 men of Alfas & Torrevieja! We had 10 as Naveed misread the team selection so Chander kindly offered to play for the opposition and we has a 35 over 9 a side game. As per usual the Intellectuals won the toss and elected to bat!
After a good start Zeeshan 16 & Asid 32, Khawer then fell first ball and Husnain 2 soon after Shakeel also for 0, C Wood (Torrevieja Keeper had figures of 5-8 at one stage) but captain Tim Richards left on 56 not out and some help from Chris Laverty and Abdul set a target 127 to win, ok considering how long the grass was in the outfield!
Intellectuals looked on top with four early wickets, even with Chander playing Husnain with ease a Richards leaping bullet catch to dismiss the hard hitting Yousaf but for A Algar and K wood to steady the ship and after a couple of missed run out opportunities Abdul bowled the dangerous Algar 41 opening the game right up but K Wood fresh from his five wickets and using all of his luck along with captain Perman took Torrevieja sorry I mean Alfas home with two wickets to spare. Husnain again bowled well 2 for 16, Shakeel 1 for 13, Richards 2 for 22 and Abdul 1 for 22.
All in all a fun day even if we were far more “friendly” with the wides than their umpires (probably the difference)!
