Newly promoted Pinatar Pirates started life in the ECCL Premier League in the best possible way, with a maximum points victory over Madrid CC.
The team from the capital were as enthuisiastic as ever but with only ten men making the 900 km round trip for the weekend it was always going to be a tall ask against the local side who have strengthened their league team considerably in the off season with the capture of Kuldeep Karan and Vinod Vini from the Cataluyna Region.
The duo did not disappoint the Pinatar faithful as they put on an unbeaten partnership of 213 with both players scoring centuries. Karan ended on 113 not out and Vini on 105 not out as the Pirates amassed a mammoth total of 366 for 4 from their over allocation.
Madrid, in reply, had some notable contributions from Adam Langhans (77), Soman Husseini (59) and A Sharma (41) to finish their innings 240 all out in the 40th over. At one point they were going along at nine an over and looking in contention but the wicket of Langhans proved crucial and Madrid lost momentum and any chance of victory. Bittu Singh took 3-59 for the Pirates.
Pinatar Pirates (20 points) beat Madrid CC (6 points) by 126 runs.
