Pinatar Pirates strengthened their lead at the top of ECCL Division One with a convincing victory over Madrid CC.
The visitors were in a cheerful mood after coming across the Sky commentator and former England International Nick Knight the night before. The former Essex and Warwickshire star, who was staying at the La Manga resort for a few days posed for pictures with the squad.
The game itself did not go the way of the visitors as Pinatar won by 171 runs. Batting first Pinatar scored 330 for 8 with Ravi Panchal top scoring with 60. For Madrid, Nicholas was the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets for just 39 runs.
In reply, the Madrid batsmen frustrated the Pinatar bowling attack to ensure the league leaders did not take maximum points from the game. Several of their players got starts but could not kick on and get the big score required to challenge the competitive Pinatar total.
Jon Woodward and Sam Tetlow both scored 31 runs as the team from the capital batted out their overs to post a respectable score of 159 for six.
June 22nd Pinatar (18 points) beat Madrid (7 points) by 171 runs.
Pinatar 330 for 8 (R Panchal 60, Nicholas 3-39) Madrid 159 for 6 (S Tetlow 31, Jon Woodward 31)
