PINATAR PIRATES V TORREVIEJA (LEAGUE)

Pirates (15 points) 186 for 7 drew with Torrevieja (7 points) 138 for 9.

The Pinatar Arena, Home of the Pinatar Pirates Cricket Club, just gets better and better, and it would be difficult to find a better venue to play cricket at.

9th of May was another magnificent sunny day and with a slight breeze blowing, was ideal for cricket. Pirates played host to their neighbours, Torrevieja CC but before starting any play a minute silence was held to honor VE day 70th Anniversary.

The visitors bowled well and made runs hard to come by, C Darwin the pick of tbe bowlers (5-27-4). Steady batting from K Buckley (36), A Panchal (36), A Safdar (34) and G Oliphant (33 not out) set Torrevieja a reasonable target of 187 to win of their 40 overs.

Torry started well with K Woods scoring a quick 37 and going well ahead of the required run rate.  The visitors at the half way point looked like they were on their way to victory.  But there must have been something in the water at the drinks interval as the Pirates came out fighting and taking some key wickets leaving Torry in trouble. A Safdar the pick of the bowlers (7-14-4).
In the end thanks to a 22 not out by J Patel, Torry 9 wickets down, held on for a nervy draw.

Pirates will  be satisfied with this winning draw, a good start to the league campaign.
