The exciting climax to the season in the ECCL Premier League came to a head last weekend when Pinatar Pirates and Madrid Star met in a contest that both needed to win convincingly to keep their title hopes alive to catch current table toppers Sporting Alfas.
With the match reduced to 25 overs a side because of CF Lorca’s continuing use of the Arena ground it was imperative that both sides put in a strong batting performance.
Pinatar won the toss and elected to bat, a decision that was to prove correct. The home side posted a formidable total of 236 for 7 with Munib Ranjah top scoring. The former Spanish international hit a sparkling 91 for the home side.
Madrid in reply never got going with their batting and were all out for just 116. Four more of Pinatar’s past and present internationals took nine of the ten wickets to fall. Sajid Ali took three wickets, Ravi Panchal and Talat Ali took two wickets each and then Farhat Mahmood claimed a further Madrid scalp to help secure a convincing Pinatar victory.
