A resounding victory by Pinatar Pirates over Levante CC put the Pirates back on the top of the ECCL Division One after early season blips had left them lying mid table..
Playing against the usually dangerous Levante Cricket Club they made light work of the club from Spain´s third largest city and gained maximum points in the process.
Levante batted first and were skittled out for just 66 runs. Starting badly they slumped to 29 for three and then lost another three wickets without a run being scored. A middle order recovery never materialised as the visitors posted one of the lowest league scores in their history.
Pinatar only lost one wicket in chasing down the total to leapfrog over Alfas and La Manga Torry to the top of the table.
As the game finished early, both teams agreed on an impromptu T20 in which Levante faired much better. Although Pinatar won, Jaggi Singh took two outstanding catches and the team from Valencia upped their performance to show that their poor batting show was probably a one-off affair.
Levante´s visit to La Manga had started brightly the day before when they picked up an equally convincing win over La Manga/Torry the day before. The hosts batted first and scored 142 all out. Levante lost only one wicket in overcoming the run chase, with Rhys Morgan ending unbeaten on 78.
