PINATAR LOSE UNBEATEN LEAGUE RECORD

Torrevieja stunned league leaders Pinatar Pirates in their ECCL Division Two encounter this weekend as they registered a thirty-two run victory over the table toppers.

The home side batted first and managed 95 for 8 on the tricky Torrevieja wicket.Vishav Thakur, batting at seven, top scored with 26, in what was to prove the second highest innings for either side, whilst former Torry favourite Lee Brown took two wickets for just 11 runs in a ten over spell that included five maidens.

In reply, the majority of the Pinatar batsmen never got to grips with the uneven bounce that the wicket was providing for the Torrevieja bowlers, who in turn, used their knowledge of their home  track to good effect.

Akash Panchal was the major hope for the vistors but his run out when he was on 38 was to prove crucial. The second top score was by Panchal’s opening partner Gopi Singh who managed 7. Michaeal Waring took 5-27 for Torrevieja as Pinatar were finally dismissed for 63 in the 25th over.

Torrevieja inflict first defeat on Pinatar Pirates.

On another hot and muggy Saturday Torrevieja Cricket Club played host to local league rivals, The Pinatar Pirates Cricket Club.

The pitch at Torry takes some getting used to and many teams have failed to come to terms with its uncertain bounce when batting.

With this in mind the Pirates skipper was happy to win the toss and let the home side bat first. Even the home side struggled on the pitch and a fine spell of bowling from Harmit Phull and Lee.Brown restricted them to just 38 runs from the first 20 overs, and 3 wickets down.

With drinks being taken every 15 overs due to the extreme heat, Torry knew that the key to this pitch is patience,  being on the front foot and keeping an eye on the ball, not playing a shot to what the ball should do!!

Torry have learnt that over the years and demonstrated that well and even though they only managed to score 95 runs from their 40 overs, losing 7 wickets, they knew it was always going to be a tricky score to get, as to get it, batsman had to master the wicket!!

Despite the warnings and having seen for themselves how the wicket played, the Pinatar batsman just did not learn, With 4 of the top 5 batsman all being cleaned bowled by a ball the bearley came off the deck!!!

The Pinatar tail tried to rally and support Akash Panchal, the only Pinatar batsman that was paying attention during the oppositions innings. However it was all in vain as a jubilant Torreveija bowling and fielding excellently dismissed the Pirates for just 63.

The heavy defeat and failure of the Pinatar Pirates batsman will have given the Pirates plenty to think about, but though down and off form on this day, their certainly not out of it yet .
