Pak-I-Care had to wait until the last game of the day to make it five wins from five and go through the Group stage unbeaten.
Having already secured first place in the group the Spaniards took a tactical decision to rest their bowling sensation Mohammad Kamran. Pak-I-Care batted first and they made a sluggish start. At the end of the power play they were struggling at 18 for 3 with the openers Babar, Ihsan and Sikander Ali all back in the pavillion.
In the middle of the innings Mahboob (11), Ahmed (34) and Hanif (31 not out) took the score to the competitive total of 100 for six at the half way stage.
In reply, GEK Corfu started well with 31 off the power play, but they were assisted by some poor fielding by the group leaders. The Greek openers capitalised on the sloppy play and both Manousos and Arslan Ahmed put on 75 before Atif Mohammed took an excellent caught and bowled to get rid of Ahmed.
Needing 18 off 12 balls at that point, the Greeks scored a single and then Manousos got out at a crucial time. With two new batmen at the crease, the Greeks became nervy and lost another wicket two balls later. Sixteen required off eight balls, the Greeks still remained favourites to claim a surprise victory.
Requiring 15 off the last over, the ball was given to Shafqat. At single and a four off the first two balls left the game evenly poised. A further single made it nine off three and then two more singles made it six off the final over to tie. The Greeks could only manage another single to give Pak-I-Care a five run victory.
Despite the win it was a lacklustre performance for the group Champions. Tomorrow they will play Punjab Lions of Cyprus and HBS Craeyenhout for the bragging rights and the number one sport for Finals Friday.
