SPORTING ALFAS II V OFFLEY – SUNDAY 22CD FEBRUARY
First match of the season for the Alfas II’s saw a new captain and a mixture of young and old back for another year. After stiff negotiations of “you do it, no you do it”, the visitors decided to have a bat and Alfas took to the field.
The tempo was set 2nd ball of the match when T. Brown caught the edge of Bexfield, through to the ‘keeper in what ended as an an opening Wicket Maiden. At the other end, Anton went though 5 overs, very controlled and caused some probems with his height and bounce.
After 10 overs and 27 runs, Alfas made the breakthrough again, Birthday boy Kieran Perman with a nice delivery that went straight into the grizzled mits of Nix. With Brown and Perman having just 3 overs each, the Alfas team spread the bowling around with Dell, M. Perman,Nix and Dhondai getting a wicket each until the final surprise was sprung by M. Perman who tossed the ball to Chris Cooper who returned figures of 3 for 7 to mop up the tail, Offlay’s innings ending on 90.
After a slap up tea (chicken burgers making a lovely introduction) the Alfas openers of Brown and J. Perman strode to the middle. Offlay’s captain’s warning of the opening bowlers being up to scratch was ringing true as both openers were back in the shed within 7 overs leaving K. Perman (25) and Byrne (34) seeing the team home.
Congratulations to Freeman, Offlay captain for top scoring for his team and returning figures of 1 for 8 off 6 overs.
