On Sunday the 29th of May, Madrid Cricket Club, in conjunction with the Club de Deportes Spinola, ran a 2 hour introduction to cricket event for over 30 primary school kids.
The majority of the children had attended previous sessions and needed no introduction to the game, but for the benefit of newcomers, the session started with a short demo and explanation of the basic rules.
This was followed by fun batting and fielding drills before moving to the continuous cricket matches. The youngsters enthusiasm for the game is plain to see and due to popular demand, a six-a-side tournament has been arranged for the 19th of June, with the British school Runnymede College invited to compete against the Spanish Colegio Spinola kids.
A big thanks to Mike Griggs and Florence Broderick for leading the session, to Cricket Spain for supplying the equipment and the other club members that came along to help out.
In addition, earlier on in the month of May, Madrid CC ran two other sessions at Colegio Spinola during school hours, one for 2nd year primary children and the other for 2nd year secondary school children. Both were a big success.
