MOJACAR 133 FOR 7 BEAT INTELLECTUALS 132 ALL OUT BY 3 WICKETS

Mojacar held off a late bowling surge from the Intellectuals to win a close league game in League Division 2 earlier this afternoon.

Nine man Mojacar won the toss and put the Intellectuals into bat. The home side lost opener Dawes quickly but opener Youngs was joined by the in form Mudassar and they set about the Mojacar attack. Scoring freely at over nine a over the home side looked in complete control until Mudassar was caught on the boundary off Keith Rose`s first over for a fine 40.

When the same bowler got two more wickets in his second over the Intellectuals fine start had capitulated to 90 for 4. Things didn`t get better for the Intellectuals as Diskin chipped in with a wicket maiden at the other end and when Rose got his fourth wicket just after the three figure mark had been reached the home side where struggling to get a second batting point.

A quickfire knock of 24 by Barri secured a further point for the home side but the resistance was short lived as the Intellectuals were bowled out for just 132 in 21.4 overs. Keith Rose showed his versatility and his value to the Mojacar side by following last weeks 55 runs with bowling figures of 6 for 34 off seven good overs.

Mojacar´s reply started well with Keith Rose and Ingram looking solid. Ingram was looking in good form until Dawes got a ball to lift and had the opener caught behind by Youngs with 32 on the board. Wicket keeper batsman Blannn showed his prowess with some excellent cover drives and the pair put on 45 for the second wicket before the former was run out for 24.

A few quick wickets did nothing to calm the visitors nerve and when Blann was out for 26 Mojacar were still several runs shy of their total. It was left to captain Lewis to see the visitors home as he scored the winning two runs off Mudassar to give Mojacar their first league win of the season.

Unfortunately both teams accrued penalty points, the Intellectuals were penalised two points for not having a scorer and Mojacar were fined four points for only having nine players.
