Sporting Alfas Cricket Club Sporting Alfas 1st X1 171 for 5 beat Nomads C.C. 168 for 9
The Nomads return to the Woodbridge Oval, bringing along another fine mixture of experience and youth in a strong team.
Batting first the Nomads got of to a good start and reached 30 in six overs for the loss of two batsmen, Williams caught by Taylor in the gully and Budgen bowled by Pennick, with the addition of only 13 more runs the third wicket fell in the twelve over.
The Nomads decided that a less flamboyant approach might be a wiser option, but as ever when SACC set about removing the opposition few teams can hold on, so wickets fell steadily and runs became harder to get, the game moved towards an early finish but Latchman and Smith held up proceedings and a lowly total of 168 was set after the 40 overs had been bowled.
SACC opened with Shafique Ali and Harry Marshall, Shafique looking well set on 35 the first to fall well caught by Akash Panchol of his brother, Ravi´s, bowling. Metcalf came and fell quickly then Muñoz and Marshal took the game away from the visitors with a quick and well taken 57 from Muñoz, reaching the hundred from 17 over´s, Marshal falling foul of Hussey as Ravi got in on the catching game.
Fletcher joined Muñoz and the score reached 127 when Christian fell popping one to the ever grateful Ravi off the bowling of Hussey.
Laundon and Fletcher looked like finishing things but Fletcher on 26 fell to Budgen caught by Jamie Dixon in the deep. Shahzad and Laundon then ended the chase and it was time for refreshments.
A good win for Alfas.
