Madrid United were confirmed the Champions of the Madrid League last weekend when they beat their nearest rivals Madrid CC at Sonseca.
Batting first United made a very competitive 266 all out on a tricky pitch. Top scorer on the day was Saed Anwar who hit 71 runs.
After receiving maximum batting points United went searching for bowling points. A strong start put Madrid on the back foot and they lost wickets with consistency. They finally were bowled out for 148 all out with Joe Healey hitting over a third of his sides runs. His unbeaten half century was the highlight of the day for his team.
On gaining maximum points it mean’t that neither Madrid or Triskell Taverners could now catch United and that United would reclaim the league title from last years Champions Madrid CC .
Congratulations to the three teams in the league and the players for all their efforts. Special thanks to all the Cricket Espana members who continue to work diligently to improve the ground at Sonseca and Ittfaq Ahmed for organising the umpires this season.
